How To Choose Your Bridesmaid Dresses with TH&TH

Whether you have just a handful of bridesmaids or a whole army, choosing the perfect bridesmaid gown can often prove difficult. Chances are, your team of ‘maids will be all sorts of different shapes and sizes, and you will want to make sure they feel comfortable and confident throughout your wedding day. Without further ado, here’s how you can make sure your #BrideTribe are totally happy with their aisle style…

Tip One

Choosing your bridesmaid dresses should be a fun process. We suggest making a day (or even weekend) of it, with plenty of prosecco, good food and lots of laughter. This is also a great ice-breaker if your ‘maids don’t know each other. Make sure you make a note of any bridal studios or dress shops you want to visit and pencil a date in the diary – we guarantee that everyone will already be looking forward to it.

Tip Two

We recommend getting another date in the diary where you can gather your girls together (over a cocktail or two) to try on all the dresses. Keep the vibe laid-back and fun to avoid anyone feeling self-conscious. This will help to build the bond between your bridesmaids, as well as double-checking that everyone is happy with their chosen outfits.

Tip Three

If you’ve handed over the reins to your ‘maids and given them total freedom when choosing their wedding attire, it’s important you do give them some direction to help them along the way. For instance, if you’re going down the route of a particular colour scheme, advise them of the various shades that you are happy for them to wear. This will also come in useful if they’re opting for mismatched dresses, two-pieces or jumpsuits etc.

Tip Four

If you are following the mismatched bridesmaid dress trend, you will need to make sure one element of every outfit is the same to ensure your ‘maids still look coordinated. Choose one thing out of the colour, length of the dress, the material or even the neckline – this will help to avoid making your bride tribe looking like wedding guests.

Tip Five

Don’t forget to consider the season that you’ll be saying, ‘I Do’. For instance, if you’re getting married in spring or summer you might want to go down the route of light, floral gowns in pretty pastel palettes. For couples getting married in autumn or winter, you’ll want to make sure your bridesmaids stay nice and warm throughout your wedding day. A cute shawl, cardigan or jacket will be the perfect aisle style addition.

Tip Six

Flowers pay a huge part in your wedding day and you’ll want to think about how they tie in with your bridesmaid dresses. Do you want them to have bouquets in keeping with your bridal bouquet, or perhaps using a separate colour scheme? Perhaps the addition of delicate trailing silk ribbon that beautifully complements your dresses will do the trick?  If you’re hosting a summer celebration or planning a big day with a boho vibe, you may even want to ask your girls to wear pretty flower crowns. The options really are endless!
